Katie – Zumba Instructor

Fitness found me after gaining 80lbs while pregnant with my son. When he turned a year old and I weighed 256 (the same weight I was when I went into the hospital to deliver him!!) I knew I needed to change; for myself, my son, my future. I tried my first Zumba class April 2011 and was instantly hooked because it was so fun! Zumba is a Latin and world music based aerobic dance program that utilizes the science of interval training to burn a larger quantity of calories than normal cardio can offer. As a mother with limited time, going to take an hour class and knowing I’m walking away with a better workout than a treadmill or elliptical was so important to me. I am so proud to say with Zumba I have met and exceeded my fitness goals. Zumba literally saved my life and made me a better mother.Zumba gave me the gift of fitness so I can help improve the quality of life for others. I have been honored to me mentored by two of the best Zumba instructors in the area, giving me the confidence to become a leader and share my Zumba love. I became certified December 2011 and was teaching my first class within two weeks. I am a strong believer in continuing education and I work tirelessly to keep my class fresh and challenging. I currently am certified to teach Zumba, Zumba toning (incorporating 1-3lb weights into routines), Zumba sentao (utilizing a chair), and Zumbatomic (kids Zumba). As of September 2012 I am AFAA group exercise certified. I frequently attend “Jam sessions” to learn and share choreography and attend classes of local “ZJ” and “ZES” (Zumba choreographers and education specialists).As an instructor I look to create a challenging, authentic class, which will give you a great cardio workout. All levels of fitness are welcome, and anyone is welcome to modify choreography to their own level! Zumbawear is available for sale at my classes so you can look the part too.
